DRI seizes over 1.5 kg cocaine worth around Rs. 15 crore, two, including a Nigerian National

In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has uncovered an international syndicate operating in New Delhi. Today, DRI officers seized a staggering 1.59 kg of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 15 crore, as part of their ongoing crackdown on drug smuggling.

The syndicate, which specialized in smuggling Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) into India from Africa via the Indo-Nepal border, was targeted by DRI officers following specific intelligence.

The operation unfolded at Anand Vihar Railway Station in Delhi, where an Indian national arriving from Raxaul, Bihar, was intercepted. Upon search, authorities discovered 92 pale yellow capsules containing a suspicious white powdery substance. Subsequent testing confirmed the presence of cocaine.

Further investigation led to the revelation that the consignment was destined for delivery in Dwarka, New Delhi. Swift action by DRI officers resulted in the interception of a Nigerian national, who had arrived on a Scooty to collect the narcotics in Dwarka.

The modus operandi of the syndicate involved smuggling contraband from African countries to Kathmandu, Nepal, often via Dubai. The drugs were concealed in trolley bags or ingested in capsules by couriers. Indian nationals would then transport the narcotics from Kathmandu to New Delhi, crossing the Indo-Nepal border.

The seized cocaine, concealed in 92 capsules with a total weight of 1.59 kg, represents a significant dent in the operations of this illicit syndicate. Both the carrier and the recipient have been apprehended in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

This successful operation underscores the determination of authorities to combat the scourge of drug trafficking, safeguarding communities from the harmful impact of narcotics. The DRI’s vigilance and swift action serve as a deterrent to those involved in illegal drug trade, sending a clear message that such activities will not be tolerated.

Further investigation is in progress.
