Empowering women is an investment in the present and future of our world

The Vice-President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, emphasized today that “empowering women is an investment in the present and future of our world”.

Speaking at the conclusion of 40 years of FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) at Bharat Mandapam, Dhankhar pointed out that “by promoting equal opportunities, breaking down barriers, and amplifying the voices and achievements of women, we create a society that is not only fairer and more just, but also prosperous and sustainable”.

Recognizing gender equality and women-led development as essential principles of a fair and progressive society, the Vice-President praised the conducive gender-neutral environment in place and acknowledged recent affirmative initiatives such as granting permanent commission for women in the Armed Forces and admitting girls in Sainik Schools.

Referring to the passage of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ in parliament as a game-changer for gender equality and women empowerment, Dhankhar hailed it as a definitive milestone in Indian polity. He added that having more women in Parliament would help change the “patriarchal mindset”.

Rejecting concerns and stereotyping of women as ‘proxy candidates’, the Vice-President highlighted the leadership role played by women scientists in India’s Chandrayan Mission. He emphasized that women are reclaiming their rightful place in society and are no longer under the control of male family members.

Stressing the inseparable link between gender justice and sustainable development, Dhankhar expressed his opinion that “gender justice and women’s economic justice are key to achieving Sustainable Development”. He added that when more women work, economies grow.

Describing women as natural ambassadors of economic nationalism, Dhankhar urged everyone to embrace economic nationalism. He emphasized that “no nation can grow without steadfast commitment to its nationalism and culture in all its facets”. Economic nationalism is fundamentally essential to growth, he added.

National President of FLO, Ms. Sudha Shivkumar, members of FLO, and other dignitaries were also in attendance at the event.
