Today, a contingent from the Indian Army embarked for Seychelles to partake in the tenth iteration of the Joint Military Exercise known as “LAMITIYE-2024” alongside the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). Scheduled to take place from March 18th to March 27th, 2024, in Seychelles, this biennial training event, named after the Creole word for ‘Friendship,’ has been a tradition since 2001. The exercise will involve 45 personnel from both the GORKHA RIFLES of the Indian Army and the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF).
The primary objective of this exercise is to bolster interoperability in Sub-conventional Operations within semi-urban settings, following the guidelines outlined in Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations. Through this joint endeavor, cooperation and interoperability during Peacekeeping Operations will be fortified. Moreover, the exercise aims to cultivate bilateral military relations while facilitating the exchange of skills, experiences, and best practices between the participating armies.
During the ten-day Joint Exercise, both sides will collaborate on training, planning, and executing a series of tactical drills tailored for neutralizing potential threats encountered in semi-urban environments. Additionally, the exercise will serve as a platform to showcase and utilize cutting-edge equipment and technology. The program will encompass field training exercises, combat discussions, lectures, demonstrations, and a two-day Validation Exercise.
This exercise is expected to significantly contribute to the development of mutual understanding and enhance jointness between the troops of both armies. Furthermore, it will promote collaborative partnerships and facilitate the sharing of best practices between the Indian Army and the Seychelles Defence Forces.
