Today, Shri Arjun Munda, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Welfare, virtually inaugurated the commencement of the ‘Centre for Preservation and Promotion of Tribal Culture & Heritage’ in Padampur, Kharsawan district, Jharkhand. This museum aims to portray and safeguard the extensive heritage of the tribal community in Jharkhand, illuminating their rich way of life and cultural practices.

Speaking via video conference to the audience, Shri Munda emphasized that over the past decade, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government has prioritized the principle of ‘Development alongside the Preservation of Traditions and Cultural Heritage.’ The Prime Minister has underscored the importance of conserving and propagating Indian knowledge systems, traditions, and cultural values nationally and internationally. In line with the Prime Minister’s vision, it is our collective responsibility to empower and support the tribal community towards building a self-reliant India for the future, the Minister added.

The Union Ministry for Tribal Affairs has endorsed this initiative by earmarking a budget of Rs. 10 crores for establishing this Centre in the Kharsawan district of Jharkhand. The Centre will exhibit both tangible and intangible aspects of tribal culture, encompassing its history and heritage in the region. Moreover, it will serve as a knowledge and information hub to assist tribal communities in their development endeavors. Future plans include developing the centre as a vibrant hub, providing space for artisans to demonstrate their skills and acting as a focal point for tourism.

In another ceremony, Shri Arjun Munda inaugurated the recently refurbished National Unique Tribal Museum, e-Library, and ST Girls’ hostel, funded by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, at Bharatiya Adim Jati Sevak Sanghathan (BAJSS) in New Delhi. BAJSS, established in 1948 by Shri Amritlal Vithaldas Thakkar, known as Thakkar Bapa, a renowned Indian social worker dedicated to the upliftment of tribal communities. Shri Munda acknowledged the rich collection of tribal artifacts and rare books housed at the BAJSS museum and library in Jhandewalan, New Delhi, stressing the importance of their preservation to prevent their loss.

During the event, Shri Munda reiterated Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call to raise awareness about India’s tribal heritage, culture, traditions, and to honor the sacrifices made by tribal heroes during the country’s freedom struggle. With this commitment in mind, the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry revitalized the Tribal Museum at BAJSS Bhawan, allocating over Rs. 3 crores for the project. Shri Munda expressed satisfaction that this initiative not only revived the building and museum but also initiated the digitization of the library to preserve rare books.
